New Screenshots!
Its been a couple of months since we updated the screenshots section, so we thought we'd treat you to possibly the best selection this side of the horse head nebula (for Lambda anyway).
As an experiment, Lambda has been ported to the PC and tested on a Pentium II 233mhz with Voodoo 2 - before we get a flood of emails, no we are not abandoning amiga development. This exercise was necessary in order to see how the engine will perform with 3D hardware (if and when PicassoIV's Voodoo module is released). The results are encouraging with a cool sustained 60fps at 640x480 (or double that with certain niceties disabled). There is no reason why a PPC amiga with suitable 3D hardware should not be able to perform adequately, although it will be a while before we know for certain.
Click here to see for yourself. You'll also find a shot from another experiment - an OpenGL video driver (seen here running on StormMesa). This should theoretically make it easier to port to AmigaNG (unless AI change their plans to implement OpenGL or come up with a better solution). Of course...this also applies to an SGI version ;)
Resurrected/Planned Features
With 3D hardware support currently being forged, a host of additional features are being implemented. Take a look at the info section. Also we are currently considering support for virtual cockpits. Provided the drag of having to render a few extra polygons is not too high, this feature should make the game more atmospheric and also free the engine from the 320x240 and 640x480 resolution restrictions.
